Some of the biggest names in the art world were rejects once – and now Art Friend is showcasing the best of a new gen of rejects.
Art Friend is proud to introduce REJECTS, the Alternative Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where the best artworks from the 13,000 rejected pieces will be showcased at a gallery hidden in the heart of Bermondsey next to White Cube.
These talented artists all submitted their artwork for consideration by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, but were not selected for display. It’s not for us to challenge the decision of the panel… instead you should come and see for yourself if these artists should have made the cut, and if you can find an artist as talented as previous rejects such as Banksy, Édouard Manet and Rebecca Salter. The difference? You can probably still afford this art.
'A Bit Spacey' 'Mindfulness'
The art is as eclectic as the range of artists themselves, featuring a display of the best contemporary art on the market, with work across a range of different mediums from large-scale abstract paintings to mixed media collages, experimental photography to oil paintings and drawings, screen prints to embroidery.
It might sound like we’re presenting ourselves in opposition to the Royal Academy. Just because they’re royal and we’re friendly; they’re about rejects and we’re about acceptance; they’re west London and we’re south London… well, maybe we are a bit different. You’ll just have to come and see for yourself.
Come launch the exhibition in style on Thursday 27 July from 6pm to 9pm, as REJECTS throws an opening night party for the hottest rejects in town. There will be drinks flowing, a DJ playing, and live screen-printing – plus the opportunity to knock-around with the artists themselves (although don’t mention the Summer Exhibition).
Please RSVP to secure a spot, as space is limited.
