Collection: Jean-Luc Almond

'I create emotive impasto oil paintings, combining figurative and abstract elements
with hints to the past. They are often ambiguous, as textures conceal features and
take precedence over the external appearance.
Fascinated by the possibilities of oil paint and texture, I meticulously construct a
painting using multiple layers of oil before masking, erasing, and blurring features
through bold impasto marks, scratching, and peeling. Traces of its history are
exposed – an apparition or fading memory of what’s beneath.
It was encouraging to win an award at The National Open Art Competition shortly
after graduating from Art School. The endless possibilities of paint and the unknown potential of what can be created is what makes me happy.'
